Goals:
This class will review the historical foundations of America in the broader context of America’s Judeo-Christian tradition. The student will gain an understanding of the origins of all major forms of government, their positive and negative aspects and specifically what our Founding Fathers believed was worth emulating or discarding when they founded our nation. The student will develop their biblical worldview with regards to what forms of government are biblical and what the bible has to say about the role of citizens in government.

This class will use the Kirk text for the first 20-22 weeks and then we’ll spend the last 8-10 weeks studying the U.S. Constitution. Our Constitutional study will focus not only on the Constitution as our founding document for government and direction, but on how our current government has strayed from the intentions of our Founding Fathers.

The Holy Bible, Plutarch on Solon, Plato and Aristotle on government, The Magna Carta, The Articles of Confederation, The Declaration of Independence, The US Constitution, selected Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers, selected writings of Rutherford, Sidney, John Locke, Rousseau, Edmond Burke, Tocqeville, Thomas Paine, Montesquieu, and others.
